It’s 2:30 in the afternoon and you’ve got 20 students who’ve been talked into what I call ‘meeting syndrome’: the sign says ‘open’ but but the lights aren’t on. In classrooms, this leads to bad grades, skipping class, maybe even dropping a course.

This is because teachers today are, by and large, using the same methods they used 800yrs ago in the medieval ages: i.e., lecture – a process by which a professor’s notes are transmitted from the board to a student’s notebook without making any stops in between.

So, what can we do to combat ‘meeting syndrome?’ We’ve got to engage students and keep them interested. We want to help students stay ahead in class. We want to give professors the tools insights that allow more students to get good grades and complete their courses.
